Fifa said a third of the 2010 World Cup tickets still not sold, but the first tournament on the continent of Africa was only five months away.
FIFA released the three million tickets to the 2010 World Cup, is now left one, too. South African citizens and the U.S. are expected to buy tickets at most on the sale of the third round, which will be done by lottery.
Jerome Valcke, FIFA general secretary, denied the assumption of lack of ticket sales due to high rates of crime in South Africa.
“Do not destroy the World Cup before rolling,” Valcke said.
“Provide opportunities for South Africa to organize the World Cup. Do not tell anyone not to go to the country,” he continued.
FIFA received 1.2 million ticket orders from 192 countries. He also said the semi-finals and final tickets may be most demanding.
Buyer at most, around 960 thousand, came from the South African population because they can buy cheaper.
U.S. citizens ordered 50 thousand, followed by the English who have been booked so far 41 thousand tickets. Population neighboring countries; Botswana, Mozambique and Namibia, only ordered 5500 sheets.
